These days, self-tape auditions are the norm so actors have had to adjust their audition skills to adapt to filmed auditions. Whether you’re auditioning for stage productions or film, you will eventually find you need to film a self-tape in order to submit yourself for a role. We have some tips on how to improve your self-tapes to get noticed!
Be Yourself- In your slate, show your personality when stating the important information casting may require at the beginning of your video. We all want to work with people we think we will like and enjoy getting to know in rehearsals and on set.
Angles- Make sure you’re reading the audition instructions carefully before filming. Depending on the submission, you may need to film vertically or horizontally showing only a specific portion of your body. Make sure you have enough room in the shot to show what is required, but don’t show more of your space than is needed.
Focus- Give yourself a realistic focal point to ground your scene/song/monologue. Looking too far off to the side will hide some of your facial expressions and might look awkward. Find a central point as your main focus that feels comfortable!
